GMB’s Dr Hilary Jones issues warning following Covid case rises

Dr Hilary Jones has sent out a warning that the UK needs to ‘get a grip’ on the rise in coronavirus cases.

The Good Morning Britain doc urged viewers to help prevent the spread of covid-19 as hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid reported that hospitals were preparing for a second wave.

As of today people in England have been told they cannot meet in groups of more than six people.

Anyone found breaking the rules faces being dispersed by police, fined £100 and possibly arrested.

Here in Greater Manchester - except Stockport and Wigan - we have our own lockdown restrictions banning two households from mixing in each other's homes and gardens.

While in Bolton, where coronavirus cases have spiked and are the highest in the UK, there are stricter rules in place.

Dr Hilary: 'We need to get grip' on covid as cases rise (ITV)

Dr Hilary said: "We've seen a rise in cases, over 3,000 again three days on the trot.

"We're seeing an increase in hospitalisations - nine deaths throughout the UK. That may not sound much now, but when you see a rise in cases inevitably you will see more hospitalisations.

"We're also seeing a rise in the number of cases in care homes, which is really worrying.

"These are the people who are most vulnerable, and I think there's been about 1,000 cases in care homes around the country.

"So, we need to get a grip on this, and make sure people do understand why social distancing is so important.

“And that the rule of six is easy to understand - six is an arbartry figure based on modeling rather than any other science.

“But the more people that individuals come into contact with, the more transmission will spread."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
