GMB's Dr Hilary Jones explains the three coronavirus symptoms to look out for in children

Dr Hilary Jones has outlined the covid-19 symptoms that children are ‘particularly affected’ by.

The Good Morning Britain doctor offered advice to viewers, many of whom will have sent their youngsters back to school this week.

Dr Hilary told panelists Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins that while coronavirus in children is still “a rarity” - there are three main symptoms to look out for.

These are specifically nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

But the doc added that these are so common in kids that they could be confused with other medical problems.

“They are so nebulous that sometimes that could be confused with other things,” he explained. “Millions of people get diarrhea and vomiting every year in the UK.

"But children particularly seem to be affected if they get covid-19 - which is a rarity in itself. Sometimes nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea can be a symptom.”

Dr Hilary then stressed that it is not a cardinal symptom, but it can be a symptom.

He continued: "A trial has been conducted in the States where they've looked at 1,000 children and found quite a significant proportion of them that had COVID-19 had had nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea.

"So it's something to be aware of - but you certainly wouldn't want to panic if your child had a tummy upset, because it's so very common, and usually associated with something else.

"But it can be a symptom of COVID-19."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
