GMB's Dr Hilary Jones' says Boris Johnson will 'never be forgiven'

Prime Minister Boris Johnson's 'apology' in Parliament for attending a 'bring your own booze' party in the Downing Street garden during the height of the first lockdown in England has done little to appease his many critics.

As well as more damaging Press coverage - even in newspapers usually loyal to Mr Johnson - there was a brutal assessment of the PM from Good Morning Britain's Dr Hilary Jones.

He was responding to host Kate Garraway who said that Dr Hilary, working in the NHS, must hear more strongly than anywhere else that people are feeling very let down, because there are workers who lost their lives, because of carrying on and trying to follow the rules, and because they had watched people die.

Dr Hilary Jones said on Thursday's programme (January 13) on ITV: "That's absolutely right.

"I think the Prime Minister will be forgiven for raising taxes, for affecting benefits, but he'll never be forgiven for the emotional trauma of those people who lost loved ones."

He also said the NHS is on its knees currently with so many staff shortages because of Covid: "And we saw the Prime Minister in hospitals not wearing masks and talking to nurses. It's constantly everyone else must do this, but I don't."

Mr Johnson admitted at the beginning of PMQs on Wednesday that he attended a lockdown party in the No 10 garden on May, 20 2020. He offered an apology but said he thought it classified as a work event and therefore would fall within the rules.

In response to repeated calls to resign from members of opposition parties, including Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer, Mr Johnson asked an official inquiry be allowed to “establish the facts”.
