GMB's Charlotte Hawkins opens up on daughter’s heartbreaking birthday request

Charlotte Hawkins has revealed her five-year-old daughter wants to ‘throw away her birthday’ this year after spending almost the last 12 months in lockdown.

The Good Morning Britain presenter opened up about her daughter’s heartbreaking plea as the five-year-old asked if she could swap her upcoming birthday for a holiday.

She explained her daughter, Ella-Rose is so desperate for a holiday she would happily not celebrate her sixth birthday.

Charlotte was joined by co-host Ben Shephard as they discussed a project where key workers had their post-lockdown dreams brought to life in a cartoon drawing.

The drawing is depicted in a bottle, which is an item commonly thrown in the ocean as a form of communication or wishing on a dream.

Charlotte's post-lockdown dream is to enjoy a ‘beach’ holiday with Ella Rose and the family.

She said: "Cartoonist Rob Murray and psychologist Dr Kevin Dutton asked workers to tell them about something they couldn't wait to do once restrictions were eased."

“Mine is going on a beach holiday with Ella-Rose, sandcastles and all. She has got a birthday coming up this weekend, and I asked her what she wanted for her birthday.

"And she said, 'Mummy, can I throw away my birthday and have a holiday instead?'

"I was like, 'Oh no, you don't have to throw away your birthday! You'll have your birthday and then we will go on holiday as soon as we can.'

"That will be a really special one."

Co-host Ben added: “The Bottle Moments Project’s aim was to raise the spirits of frontline workers using cartoons and has gone from strength to strength.

“My Bottle Moment was being reunited with my family down in Port Isaac in Cornwall where we all think of as home, that's us on the breakwater looking back at the village, we all get together usually as a family.

“Every member of my family now has this picture in a prominent place and we can't wait to recreate it."
