GMB's Charlotte Hawkins in tears after dad's battle with motor neurone disease

Charlotte Hawkins cried on Good Morning Britain today after speaking about her father's battle with motor neurone disease.

Charlotte's dad Frank passed away in 2015 aged 78 after three years battling the terminal illness.

Today she became emotional after a chat with a former Tipping Point contestant Helen Whitelaw who was currently battling the condition.

After the interview a photo of Charlotte's dad was shown and she started to cry as she told co-host Ben Shephard: "I'm getting emotional seeing a photo of my dad".

Charlotte managed to pull it together and then did the new ice bucket challenge where participants put their feet into a bucket of iced water for 92 seconds.

The mum-of-one was initially nervous but bravely plunged her feet into the icy water as she explained why the challenge was so important to raise awareness of the condition.

Charlotte said that one of the signs of the illness was numb feet, as she said her dad had complained of feeling like he was walking in snow.

And viewers at home were quick to praise her efforts.

Sharon Coates said: "Charlotte Hawkins, you did it! Your dad would be proud."

Sue said: "Good on you Charlotte."

Carrie Hayler said: "Well done @CharlotteHawkns raising awareness of #MND. That must have been agony."

And Kelly said: "Well done Charlotte."

*GMB continues at 6am on ITV tomorrow
