GMB's Ben Shephard mocks Kate Garraway as her phone goes off live on air

Kate Garraway left her Good Morning Britain co-stars amused on Friday morning, thanks to a phone blunder.

The telly host had not put her phone on silent ahead of the live show, leading to it going off during a segment.

As Kate and co-host Ben Shephard spoke with Jacqui Smith and Iain Dale about the latest news stories, it pinged suddenly.

Ben mocked his pal over the mishap, claiming it happens often on the show.

An amused Kate quickly came up with an excuse for the message, before admitting it was in fact just a news alert.

The fact she was hosting the news on GMB at the time left Ben pointing out how funny it was, that she was getting news alerts from elsewhere.

As Kate spoke with the show guests, the phone suddenly made a loud noise with Ben quipping: "As ever, Kate has left her phone on."

Kate then said back: "Sorry, and my excuse is... what is my excuse today? My excuse today is my eye!"

She then revealed the truth and pulled a face, as she told viewers: "That was just a news alert."

Ben laughed off the moment, joking: "Your excuse is your eye? The good news is there is some breaking news on another news channel."

Kate told him: "I'm sorry. I find it quite useful when I'm not on air," as Ben urged everyone to check out for whatever the breaking news was.

Host Kate went on to joke it was someone reporting on her glasses, after she wore the new spectacles on the show.

Ben said they made her look "different" as she revealed she had to wear them because of a painful eye infection.

Sharing her discomfort, Kate revealed her eyes were really sore and had been for days.

She told Ben: "I've got a very sore eye, bits of me are falling apart. It's really sore and I've had quite a few long days recently."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
