GMB's Ben Shephard in cringe-worthy gaffe as he speaks Spanish to Gino D’Acampo

Ben Shephard suffered a cringe-worthy gaffe on Good Morning Britain after he spoke Spanish to Gino D’Acampo.

On Wednesday’s instalment of the ITV breakfast show, Ben and co-presenter Susanna Reid spoke with the TV chef about his upcoming television projects, including a new series of Family Fortunes.

However, Ben’s attempt to say an Italian phrase to Italian chef Gino went awry when the wrong language came out.

As they teased the interview, Ben said: "Still to come, we're talking family feuds and food with the one and only Gino D'Acampo. Morning Gino!"

Gino, who was speaking over a video link from home, said: “Bonjourno, Come stai? [How are you?]”

Ben responded: "Muy buen [very good]! Is that right?"

Gino then awkwardly pointed out that Ben had spoken in Spanish instead of Italian.

The TV chef said: “'Muy buen' is Spanish, it’s not Italian!".

Embarrassed Ben then replied: "What's the Italian for 'good', 'we're good'?”

Gino then answered: "Tutto bene. Tutto bene".

Ben then chuckled: "Tutto bene, there we go. Tutto bene, Gino.

“We’re going to be chatting to Gino very shortly... and more Italian lessons for me.”

However, Ben was not the only person to admit that he had made a mistake today either, as Susanna admitted that her trip to Cornwall prompted her to see she had been using the word ‘staycation’ in the wrong manner.

Ben commented: “You had some adventures in the South West of the UK on your holiday?”

Susanna answered: “Went to gorgeous Cornwall. Got told off for calling it a staycation. It’s not a staycation, Ben.”

Because you’re not staying at home,” noted Ben.

“No, but I thought that staying at home was staying in the UK,” claimed Susanna, “and having a lovely holiday in the UK.”

Ben replied: “More fool you.”

“More fool me,” agreed Susanna.

“A staycation is when you stay home, if you holiday within your home,” confirmed Ben, “if you’re going to Devon or Cornwall…”

“I thought that’s a lockdown,” joked Susanna to a laugh from Ben.

*Good Morning Britain airs on weekday mornings from 6am to 9am on ITV with past episodes on ITV Hub.
