GMB's Andi Peters suffering from shingles as he's off sick for first time in 20 years

Ben Shephard has updated Good Morning Britain viewers about co-star Andi Peter's condition after it was revealed he was suffering from shingles.

The 49-year-old presenter has taken time off for sick leave for the first time in 20 years after contracting the nerve infection.

Speaking about Andi today to co-stars Kate Garraway, Charlotte Hawkins and Richard Arnold, Ben said: "We've been missing Andi Peters all week because, as you know, he's been very ill. He's had shingles. I managed to catch up with him yesterday afternoon."

Kate responded: "Did you?"

Ben exclaimed: "Peters is alive!"

Kate repeated: "Peters is alive!"

Charlotte asked whether he was feeling better, to which Ben responded: "He is, he's feeling a lot better because he was drinking coffee."

After GMB aired a picture of Ben drinking coffee with a miserable Andi, Charlotte quipped: "Can he tell his face that?"

"He's been given a few days off so he didn't want everyone to think he was absolutely fine," Ben said. "He wants to milk it! He's in next Wednesday or Thursday... he's been really, really bad.

"I mean, the shingles went all across his shoulder because he had a heat pack on it when he was flying back to Bangkok and apparently the virus went down the nerves and gravitated towards the heat.

"Then he couldn't wear anything, he was so insensitive so he couldn't wear a top of anything."
