GMB's Alex Beresford reacts to rumours he wants to 'crack America' after Piers Morgan spat

Alex Beresford has reacted to speculation he wants to 'crack America' after his on-air spat with Piers Morgan hit headlines across the world last week.

The Good Morning Britain colleagues clashed over Meghan Markle and their reactions to her and husband Prince Harry's much talked about interview with Oprah Winfrey.

After Piers tore into the couple, Alex responded: "There was bad press around the engagement... and everything that has followed since," before saying it was obvious Piers "didn't like Meghan," in reference to claims made by Piers last week that she "ditched him like a sack of spuds."

He told Piers: "She’s entitled to cut you off if she wants to," before accusing him of "continuing to trash her," as Piers got out of his seat and stormed off set saying: "I'm done with this."

Alex released a statement about the argument and Piers' subsequent decision to quit GMB in the same day, in which he said the outspoken host leaving the show wasn't the outcome he was "hoping for."

Coverage of Alex and Piers' live TV row was seen across the world in the days that followed and on Monday it was reported by The Sun that Alex was looking to capitalise on the attention.

A source told the paper: "He sees this as his chance to be a global star - he was featured on the Wendy Williams show and has featured extensively in the New York Times and LA Times.

"Alex has been so overwhelmed by the support he had to have a few days off work and he’s currently exploring all of his options."

Seemingly referencing the speculation Alex took to Twitter to post: "Just booked some flights for the future and ordered some speedos; apparently they’re making a comeback! Who knew?"

One fan replied: "Hope your beach shorts have big back pockets cos you had Morgan in yours Beresford for prime minister i say.. Salute you sir"

On Sunday night, Alex appeared on Harry & Meghan: The Week That Shook The Royals, a documentary about the fall out from their Oprah interview.

Addressing the racism claims made by them against the royal family, Alex revealed he'd once been asked by a colleague if he was 'worried' about what colour his son's skin would be.

He explained:"I'm a mixed race man myself, my son's mother is white and I had a former colleague ask me the very question and the exact words were 'are you worried about the shade of cocoa that your baby is going to come out'.

"And the key word in that sentence is not 'cocoa' but is 'worried'.

"Of course we are going to wonder what features the baby will take but you would have these conversations whether it was two white parrots or two black parrots but context is everything and they led us to believe that it was said in a concerned context, which is offensive."
