GMB's Alex Beresford once asked if he was 'worried' about son's skin colour

Alex Beresford has revealed he was once asked by a colleague if he was 'worried' about his baby's skin colour, after the row over Meghan and Harry's claim that a member of the Royal family made a racist remark about their son.

It's now been a week since the couple's much hyped interview with Oprah Winfrey first aired and one of the biggest bombshells from it seeing Harry and Meghan accusing the Royal Family of racism after an unnamed royal had 'conversations and concerns' over how dark their son Archie's skin would be when he was born.

The candid chat was thrust into the TV spotlight once again on Sunday night with ITV documentary Harry and Meghan: The Week That Shook the Royals aired and one of the people featured in it was Good Morning Britain star Alex.

Alex found himself at one of the biggest TV stories of last week after a clash between him and colleague Piers Morgan, resulted in Piers storming off the set.

Hours later it was revealed that Piers had quit GMB, with Alex releasing a statement a few days later to say it wasn't the outcome he "was hoping for."

Sunday's documentary examined the fall out from Harry and Meghan's Oprah interview and Alex opened up on a similar experience he had to the couple with his child, saying: "I'm a mixed race man myself, my son's mother is white and I had a former colleague ask me the very question and the exact words were 'are you worried about the shade of cocoa that your baby is going to come out'.

"And the key word in that sentence is not 'cocoa' but is 'worried'.

"Of course we are going to wonder what features the baby will take but you would have these conversations whether it was two white parrots or two black parrots but context is everything and they led us to believe that it was said in a concerned context, which is offensive."

Alex's statement about Piers' GMB exit read: "Piers' departure sincerely wasn't the conclusion I was hoping for. Over the last few years, Piers and I have had a lively, cheeky on air relationship.

"We both wanted to be on the show Tuesday morning and from our very public conversations on Twitter, we both knew how strongly our opinions differed on the treatment of Harry and Meghan pre and post the Oprah interview that has split the world."

"I hoped we could reach a place of understanding. It's sad that we weren't able to get there but challenging his opinion was not an outrage."
