GMB's Alastair Campbell 'accidentally announces death of the Queen' in live blunder

Good Morning Britain's Alastair Campbell was forced to correct himself, after accidentally saying the Queen had died when he was actually referring to the death of her husband, Prince Philip.

The guest host made the error as he spoke to former footballer Vinnie Jones about grief, following the loss of his wife Tanya Jones in 2019.

He was heard saying live on the show on Wednesday: "We talked a lot about Prince Philip after the death of the Queen..."

While the segment continued, it was just moments later that, realising his mistake, Alastair quickly corrected his comments to viewers watching at home.

By which point, many of those tuning in had tweeted in to the show over the gaffe.

While some were a little confused wondering if it was news, others quickly realised he had simply made a mistake with his words.

He told them: "Can I just say something, I think I may have accidentally announced the death of the Queen.

"I meant Prince Philip of course."

"I think people understood exactly what you meant," Susanna replied, before moving the topic on.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: "According to Alistair Campbell the Queen died !!!"

Another asked: "Please Confirm @GMB is the Queen dead ??"

A third added: "When did the Queen die?"

Some viewers acknowledged his apology though, with many aware it was a mistake.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
