GMB power cut plunges studio into darkness with show hanging in the balance

Tuesday's Good Morning Britain didn't go to plan behind the scenes after a massive power cut sparked chaos before it went live.

Millions of people tune into the ITV breakfast show every day but what those watching today didn't realise, is that there may not have been a show after the studio was plunged into darkness as a result of the technical glitch.

After going to air as as planned by their skin of their teeth it was GMB hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard who revealed the drama that had gone on after the power cut wiped out pretty much everything the show requires to go to air.

The GMB team were left no printers to print off their briefs about new stories, no lights, no air conditioning, no microphones and no internet to speak to their guests via video link.

Kate told viewers: We had a massive power cut at Good Morning Britain, it's been all sorts of dramas. They couldn't use any printers to print us the briefs to brief us on the stories," Kate explained.

"They had no lights, the air conditioning went off, the server which is the thing that brings the show to you and allows us at the moment to speak to our guests because they are not allowed into the studio."

She then added: ""The director is now taking the mick at my technical explanations!" before the studio went dark again as part of a prank on the presenting duo.

As cameras continued to roll, Kate later went onto to tell those watching at home about a " tough visit" to see husband Derek in hospital on Monday, admitting it was made extra emotional by the fact he'd be missing son Billy's birthday for the first time.

She did however say she was taking positives from the fact that the former Labour aide was now "stable" after a four month battle for his life due to coronavirus.
