GMB Piers Morgan slammed after claiming Harry is making mental health 'excuse'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are back in the spotlight after clips from Meghan's exclusive interview with Oprah were released.

The Sussexes announced that they would be leaving their roles as senior Royals last March.

Since then, they have relocated to America where they are raising son Archie and expecting a second child.

In Harry's interview with James Corden he cited his mental health as one reason for removing himself from the public eye.

Piers Morgan, seemingly without medical expertise or personal insight into the matter, called Harry's mental health concerns an excuse on Good Morning Britain today.

Piers said: "I think we've really got to move past 'they want to be left alone'.

"They don't want to be left alone, obviously, they wouldn't be giving big interviews if they wanted to be left alone."

Co-host Susanna Reid said: "Well, they don't want the needling, nasty criticism, do they?

"God forbid, oh my goodness, anyone might like to have a nice life where you're not constantly bashed all the time."

Piers said: "Oh, well we'd all like that wouldn't we?"

Susanna said yes before Piers added: "They're not constantly bashed all the time, they're constantly praised by people like you."

Susanna said: "They're constantly bashed by people like you."

Piers replied: "That is what public people get. You don't demand only positive coverage. That would be ridiculous.

"But is not relentlessly, that is a total myth. They had the best coverage up to the wedding.

"Stop using mental health as an excuse. The Queen has never done that – saying 'look at me struggling in my palace'."

Many Twitter users were outraged by Piers' dismissal of Harry's mental health.

Mo said: "Will you apologise for mocking Harry about his mental health?

"Seriously Piers, put your brain in gear before your mouth. Mental health is serious."

Sue said: "While I tend to agree with you on lots of things.

"I think you have a real issue with Harry and Megan and that offends me.

"They deserve to be happy, you have made it your mission to always be horrible."

Sean said: "I have said it before, Prince Harry has done so much for this country and deserves happiness.

"No one knows what his mental health is, and what support he needs."
