GMB host Kate Garraway says past few weeks have been 'hardest of my life' as husband battles coronavirus

Kate Garraway has shared a moving post about experiencing the “hardest time” of her life, as her husband, author and former lobbyist Derek Draper, remains in a critical condition from coronavirus.

The Good Morning Britain star wrote an article for her blog, Club Garraway, where she spoke about the “worrying time” her family is facing.

“You may have seen the news over the last couple of weeks and seen that my husband Derek has been seriously ill in hospital with Covid-19,” she said, via Metro.

“I am afraid that he remains in a critical condition and is very ill.  It remains an extremely worrying time for us all and the last couple of weeks have been the hardest of my life.

“The NHS team who are working on him have all been extraordinary and I know that it’s only their professionalism, dedication and bravery that has kept Derek with us so far.”

Garraway thanked those who had sent messages of support and said she was taking time during “quieter moments” to read them.

“I want to send a message of love and support to all of you going through this. You are not alone,” she added.

“We must all stand together and support each other and I am praying to be able to be talking with you soon with some positive news.”

Garraway’s co-host Ben Shepherd revealed on Friday 24 April that she has been playing music to her husband during his illness.

“We had some guests on last week and I think a lot of hospitals are doing this, they are offering families the chance to speak to their loved ones who can’t respond because they’re in comas,” he said.

“But she’s been able to share music with him, to talk to him and just support him.”
