GMB host Kate Garraway pens emotional tribute to 'extraordinary' Queen Elizabeth II

Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway has written a heartfelt tribute to Queen Elizabeth II following her death at the age of 96 on Thursday afternoon (September 8).

The ITV daytime host took to Instagram to post a lovely message following the news of the Queen's death as she shared a collage of the monarch during different stages of her life.

The announcement of the Queen's death came on Thursday evening following an earlier statement from Buckingham Palace which said that doctors were "concerned for Her Majesty's health" and "she remain under medical supervision".

Kate wrote on Instagram: "RIP HM Queen Elizabeth II. We will forever be in your debt for your lifetime of dedication. Mother, grandmother, great grandmother - my thoughts are with all the Royal family for their loss.

"Sending love too to all those , like me , who feel the loss of her extraordinary presence as a constant in all our lives, seems even now, strangely and unsettlingly unreal."

The Queen died with her family by her side as tributes pour in from around the world.

Prince Charles, Prince Edward, Prince Andrew and Princess Anne arrived at her Scottish home amid fears for the Queen's health. Princes William and Harry were also in attendance in the Queen's final hours.

Tributes have poured in from around the world as 12 days of national mourning begin.

A Buckingham Palace statement said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon, The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

With her death, her eldest son Charles, the former Prince of Wales, will lead the country in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.

Leading the way was the future King, who said the death of his "beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family."

Crowds gathered outside Buckingham Palace and sang "God Save the Queen" on Thursday evening.

Thousands have descended on the Palace despite heavy rain. One mourner, Margaret Parris, tearfully said: "We've grown up with her always being there."

The Queen's final public statement was a moving message sent to the people of Canadian community where 10 people were stabbed to death.

A further 19 were injured in the Canadian community of Saskatchewan as suspects, Myles and Damien Sanderson, are confirmed dead.
