GMB host Kate Garraway left in tears as boy with cancer is reunited with family after lockdown

TV host Kate Garraway was moved to tears after watching the touching moment a seven-year-old boy suffering from cancer was reunited with his family.

Zeke Puig, who has a rare combination of life-threatening cancers, had been separated from his family for 75 days because he had to isolate.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Zeke has undergone two bone marrow transplants after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and advanced myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) last year.

He has only been able to be with mum Danielle while undergoing the intensive treatment, but she managed to film the moment he was reunited with the rest of his siblings, reports The Mirror.

Good Morning Britain host Ranvir Singh shared the clip on the ITV programme on Monday, saying: "Shall we look at this lovely video, Kate, with the little boy who has been having chemotherapy and he hasn't seen his siblings for 75 days because, of course, the family had to isolate."

Kate responded: "Because you're so much more susceptible, aren't you?"

"Yeah, exactly," Ranvir said. "So Danielle Puig is the mum and she surprised her other children with this lovely moment with seven-year-old, Zeke, they haven't seen him since September. She got all of her children to close their eyes.

"And then he wandered in and they opened their eyes. After 75 days of not seeing their very poorly brother. Isn't that lovely? It brought a tear to our eye in news this morning."

Kate seemed emotional as she replied: "We can't really speak about it, um... they're just screaming in delight.

"I guess these are all the people we're tolerating restrictions for, isn't it? When you see that family has had to go through that, what it meant to be apart, it does make it easier to cope with some of the restrictions, doesn't it?"

While Kate's husband Derek has woken up from his coma after contracting coronavirus earlier this year, he has not yet been able to return home.

Last week, she explained : "There are big ups and big downs, not big ups really, small improvements and worrying downs as well.

"But the last few days have been pretty stable, so keeping everything crossed really."
