GMB guest issues warning of 'third lockdown' by next month over government's Christmas Covid plans

A Good Morning Britain guest has issued a stark warning of a 'third lockdown'.

During today's installment of the ITV show, broadcaster Iain Dale shared a bleak prediction over the government's Christmas plans.

Speaking to hosts Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins Iain said the Prime Minister is likely to be having a conversation about a third lockdown.

It comes as current government rules state that up to three households will be allowed to form 'bubbles' for five days over the festive period - between 23 to 27 December.

However, the radio broadcaster and political commentator expressed fears that this may lead to another spike in coronavirus infections, and potentially a third nation-wide lockdown.

Iain said he 'cannot see' Boris Johnson would go back on the rules that have already been announced by Downing Street.

But 'almost guarantees' that calls for the country to be locked down 'will arise in January'.

"I can almost guarantee that in a month's time, in the middle of January, we will be having a conversation about a third lockdown," he said.

"That could have been avoided if these relaxations weren't happening over Christmas.

"Everybody wants to spend Christmas in a normal way, but we're not going to be able to. The one thing I would say is really think about how you're going to do this.

"You can blame the government for allowing us to do this if you like, but it's really down to each and every one of us."

England came out of it's second lockdown on December 2 after four weeks, and has been operating under a Three Tier system since.

Only the Isle of Wight, The Scilly Isles and Cornwall are under Tier One, while the rest of the country has been split into either Tier Two or Tier Three - with Tier Three being the most severe.

Good Morning Britain airs at 6am on weekdays on ITV
