GMB guest brands Piers Morgan 'arrogant' for suggesting he was 'fat shamed' into losing 6 stone

A Good Morning Britain guest branded Piers Morgan 'arrogant' for suggesting he was 'fat shamed' into losing six stone.

Personal trainer Marvin Ambrosius was on the ITV show to debate about whether it is offensive to say the word ‘fat’.

This comes after Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli reportedly asked to reshoot a scene after referencing the word during filming as he didn’t think he was allowed to say the word on TV.

Judi Love, who is a plus-sized woman, argued that people who are offended by a word need to reflect on that themselves, adding that “we’re going to get to a stage where we can’t say anything”.

And Piers went on to hijack the talk, arguing that fat shaming is a way to get people to lose weight.

But Marvin countered: “[Fat shaming] would never work [with me] because I had to go to a negative place in order to find something like that. But a negative place for some people - they don’t have the strength to come out.

"And that is not fair.

“It was my choice [to lose weight], it was to do with having children, it was to do with getting older, it was to do with health, it was also to do with the fact that I felt terrible.”

But Piers, 54, continued to push his point across and talked over him.

“I would prefer you coming on and saying I was a chunky lad carrying too much timber and I have sorted myself out, look at me now, that’s empowering,” he said.

Susanna pointed out that no one had shamed Marvin into losing weight.

Marvin hit back: “That is arrogant. I am trying to invoke other people to do exactly what I did.”

Piers then said it isn’t arrogant, but “highly factual”, adding that he is trying to make others “more snowflakey”.

But Marvin continued: “It’s mental, not physical, not everybody has that.”

Piers went on another rant to say that society needs to “celebrate mental strength as well as weakness”.

He said: “We need to get to a place, I believe, where we start to celebrate mental strength and resilience, as much as at the moment we seem to celebrate people with something wrong with them.

“We need to stop worrying about people like Bruno saying phrases like the fat lady sings. It is ridiculous. Get a grip, Britain.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
