GMB fans praise Susanna Reid as she grills Sajid Javid over Prime Minister

Susanna Reid was praised by fans of Good Morning Britain today after delivering a few home truths to Health Secretary Sajid Javid.

The MP appeared on the ITV talk show via video link as he chatted to Susanna and co-host Richard Madeley. He was there to defend Prime Minister Boris Johnson after news broke that he would be facing a vote of confidence at some point today.

Tory 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady announced that the 54-letter threshold to trigger a formal leadership challenge had been reached. A secret ballot of Tory MPs will be held tonight between 6pm and 8pm.

Mr Javid was intent on defending the Prime Minister, when Richard reminded him: "You say you support him, but almost three years ago in June 2019 you said he was 'yesterday's news'. So what's changed your mind?"

He replied: "As I say, we are a proud democratic party. When we had our last election, I alongside others, we made a case alongside Boris Johnson. Boris rightfully won because that's where the support was of the party.

"More importantly he then went on, in 2019, that same year to have a general election which delivered one of the biggest conservative majorities that we have ever seen and we have been delivering ever since that point. He said that we would get Brexit done and we did."

Susanna interrupted him as she said: "Sorry Mr Javid, you haven't got Brexit done have you? I'm sorry to interrupt but part of the problem is that you haven't got Brexit done.

"We have this huge issue with the Northern Ireland protocol and one of your colleagues Jesse Norman has sent this letter - it's an excoriating letter - to the Prime Minister."

She went on to explain how another Tory MP had published a letter earlier today on Twitter where Mr Norman said that Boris Johnson’s current policy priorities were “deeply questionable". In his letter to the Prime Minister, Mr Norman, a former minister, warned that any breach of the Northern Irish Protocol would be “economically very damaging, politically foolhardy and almost certainly illegal”.

Fans of GMB applauded the presenter on Twitter for stopping Mr Javid in his tracks. Davy said: "Good on you @susannareid100 challenging #SajidJavid on Brexit, Partygate, on everything. #GMB."

Siobhan said: "Very much enjoyed Susanna Reid interrupting Javid to say 'no, you haven't got Brexit done'. More journalists should do that #gmb." Another user said: "YES! @susannareid100 nails it: YOU HAVEN’T GOT #BREXIT DONE #GMB."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub
