GMB fans in tears as Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid lead 'powerful' Covid tribute

Good Morning Britain viewers were left in tears today as presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid lead a series of "powerful" tributes to those who have lost their lives to coronavirus.

The "heartbreaking" tributes were compiled with the permission of the families who lost loved ones to the deadly virus, and revealed intimate details about many of the victims.

The segment followed a grim milestone since the start of the pandemic last year, as the number of Covid deaths registered in the UK passed 100,000. Up to January 15, coronavirus had been mentioned on 103,704 death certificates.

And the latest picture is even more bleak, as a further 7,698 deaths have been confirmed since - meaning the total now stands at about 115,782.

Concluding the touching tribute, Susanna said : "For each name and every story we have told, there are at least 4,000 more people who have died of coronavirus."

She added: "It really takes its toll, doesn't it?"

Piers said: "When we hear the little details of their lives, they're human beings, they're real people."
