GMB fans fume as guest suggests wrapping Christmas presents in tea cloths

Good Morning Britain viewers were left fuming over a debate on whether to ban wrapping paper at Christmas.

The ITV show - hosted by Kate Garraway and Richard Bacon - discussed a potential ban on wrapping paper around the festive period, as one guest suggested people use teacloths instead of the traditional paper.

Nicola Lewis, home organising expert and author, said wrapping paper wasn't environmentally friendly, as she called for a ban on paper and instead suggested we use clothes we can reuse again the next year to wrap the presents, whilst Dawn Neesom is a huge fan of glittery wrapping paper and will continue to use it for years to come.

Nicola said: "The amount of wrapping paper that is thrown in the UK is enough to reach the moon. The reason I love to reuse a tea towel and wrap a gift in it. It's three gifts - you've got a scrunchie, a tea towel and the gift and it's a zero waste gift."

Whilst Dawn added: "Bah humbug! It's Christmas - can we just take one day off the lectures? We've been lectured about Covid, what we can and can't do, the environment. I do my bit but on Christmas Day, I want a present wrapped in wrapping paper."

Fans were left fuming by the suggestion of wrapping presents in teacloths, as one wrote: "Heard it all now. She probably only gives a couple gifts so can afford a tea towel or two. Get a life you got too much time on your hands.

"Can just imagine 'mum give that tea towel back plz i need to wash up later and need to use it again! #gmb."

Another added: "Wrap your presents in tea towels for the environment they’re taking the p*** now have you seen how much we buy on a Xmas, we’d need about a 1000 tea towels and a f***ing sowing machine #GMB."

"Wouldn't dream of giving someone a present wrapped in something like that #gmb," a third wrote, whilst a fourth added: "Friggin' hell, they're trying to ban wrapping paper now?! #gmb."

However, some viewers said they were "on board" with the idea.

One said: " #GMB I’m so on board with the idea of getting rid of Christmas paper! It would help out the economic status Bags for Christmas next year! Let’s save some trees and paper."
