GMB doctor Sarah Jarvis warns coronavirus rates 'twice the average' in local lockdown areas

Good Morning Britain's Dr Sarah Jarvis has warned that coronavirus rates are increasing and in some cases are "twice the average" in local lockdown areas.

It comes after the government announced new local lockdown measures for northern England last night.

New rules have been imposed on Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and East Lancashire as different households cannot meet indoors or in gardens, the Mirror Online reports.

4.5million people are said to be affected by the lockdown restrictions.

Dr Jarvis discussed the new measures - which you can see in the video above - with GMB hosts Ranvir Singh and Adil Ray during Friday's instalment of the show.

Dr Jarvis revealed that the infection rates in local lockdown areas are double compared to other parts of the country.

She urged people to be alert as infection rates were "going up" in these areas.

She said: "It must be such a challenge. I woke up to this this morning. Because of this huge group of people affected. Bradford nearly half a million.

"Not only are infection rates in many of those areas more than twice the average, but really importantly they're going up."

Dr. Jarvis then went on to say she "felt for the government" to deliver the tough news to Brits in certain parts of the country.

"I do feel for the government," she said.

Also, the redhead branded lockdown "a challenge" for people.

Dr Jarvis has been gracing our screens to give the British nation the latest health advice amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
