GMB Doctor Sarah Jarvis issues big concern over going to swimming pools

While telling people that swimming is a brilliant form of exercise, Good Morning Britain health expert has issued a big concern over going to indoor pools as they re-open.

Leisure centres will start to re-open from this weekend as more lockdown restrictions are lifted and, following on from outdoor pools welcoming visitors, indoor pools will be able to do the same.

And, reacting to a question as to whether it is wise to go to them, Dr Jarvis said: "Swimming pools – we’ve had open air swimming pools open, though very sadly some of them have gone to the wall, and said it wasn’t feasible for them to open.

"‘So we do need to support them, it’s a fantastic form of exercise, it’s a great way for families to get together, but we need to do it safely.

"The good news is this is an envelope virus, so coronavirus is an envelope virus so it should be very susceptible to chlorine."

However, Dr Jarvis did say there was one main area of concern for her with regards to indoor pools re-opening, explaining: "‘Indoors, however, the big concern is the circulation of the air.

"So, pools have been very careful about making sure that outdoor air is circulated inside and that people are swimming in one direction.

"More importantly, we heard from that centre that they’ve spent loads of money on ensuring that their changing rooms are safe."
