GMB doctor Sarah Jarvis explains why tall men are more likely to contract coronavirus

Good Morning Britain doctor Sarah Jarvis has explained why tall men are more likely to catch coronavirus, according to a new study.

ITV's medial expert, who is standing in for Dr Hilary Jones, commented on new findings that suggest tall men are more susceptible to contracting the deadly virus.

The study, which surveyed 2000 people in the UK and US, suggests that being over 6ft tall more than doubles your chances of catching Covid-19, Birmingham Live reports.

Early findings of the survey and study proposes that the virus is transmitted via 'aerosol transmission', rather than droplets alone.

Discussing the study with GMB hosts Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins, Dr Sarah Jarvis pointed out - which you can watch in the video above - that the findings aren't entirely conclusive but that there could be some merit to them.

Dr Sarah said: "I mean, this is an observational study, it has not been peer reviewed. There could be all sorts of other things going on here.

"This is why we look at the science very carefully and do not draw too many conclusions. We know men are likely and we think people who are bald are at higher risk, and we think that is possibly to do with testosterone."

Dr Sarah continued: "That is good news for me because people can describe me many ways - but being tall is not one of them!"

Professor Evan Kontopantelis, from The University of Manchester, explains: "The results of this survey in terms of associations between height and diagnosis suggest downward droplet transmission is not the only transmission mechanism and aerosol transmission is possible.

"This has been suggested by other studies but our method of confirmation is novel.

"Though social distancing is still important because transmission by droplets is still likely to occur, it does suggest that mask wearing may be just as if not more effective in prevention.

"But also, air purification in interior spaces should be further explored."
