GMB doctor reveals whether indoor pools are safe to use amid reopening concerns

Good Morning Britain's Dr Sarah Jarvis has revealed whether indoor pools are safe to use amid reopening concerns.

From tomorrow, July 25, indoor pools, gyms and other sports facilities will be allowed to reopen in England.

Strict coronavirus measures and guidelines will be in place, but some are still unsure whether pools in particular will be safe to use, the Mirror Online reports.

The TV doctor explained - which you can watch in the video above - that Covid-19 is an envelope virus, which means that it should be very susceptible to chlorine.

However, she warned that the biggest concern with indoor pools was the circulation of the air.

Earlier on in the programme, GMB correspondent Katie Rickitt was at Britain's biggest indoor waterpark, Sandcastle, in Blackpool and spoke about the various alterations.

Revealing that the owners had spent over £100,000 on alterations to the changing rooms, she said: "Instead of having male, female, children's, it'll be family bubbles and individual rooms."

She also confirmed that there were social distancing signs all over the park.

Dr Sarah Jarvis was then asked by hosts Ranvir Singh and Adil Ray on whether it really was safe.

She said: "Swimming pools - we've had open air swimming pools open, though very sadly some of them have gone to the wall and said it wasn't feasible for them to open.

"So we do need to support them, it's a fantastic form of exercise, it's a great way of families to get together, but we need to do it safely.

"The good news is this is an envelope virus, so coronavirus is an envelope virus so it should be very susceptible to chlorine.

"Indoors, however, the big concern is the circulation of the air, so pools have been very careful about making sure that outdoor air is circulated inside and that people are swimming in one direction.

"More importantly, we heard from that centre that they've spent loads of money on ensuring that their changing rooms are safe. In most places they will be recommending that you turn up in your costume, wearing your gym stuff, so you minimise the time [in them].
