GMB doctor echoes warnings that people who had Pfizer vaccine may have to get a third dose

Good Morning Britain's Dr Amir Khan has echoed warnings that recipients of the Pfizer vaccine may have to get a third dose.

On Friday's edition of the ITV1 daytime show, Dr Amir discussed the prospect of Pfizer Covid vaccine recipients having a booster jab.

His comments echo warnings from the tech giant's CEO on Thursday, which hinted booster jabs may be needed within a year, BirminghamLive reports.

On Good Morning Britain on Friday, Dr Amir warned: "This is from the chief executive of Pfizer. It comes from the CEO.

"He was speaking yesterday and the doctor said we may well need a booster jab after the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine, between six to 12 months after we have that jab really.

"The reason for this is because we simply do not know the level of immunity - we do not know how long immunity or protections lasts after having that vaccine."

Dr Amir then continued: "Studies show with the Pfizer vaccine that protection lasts six months but it remains uncertain beyond that timeframe.

"It lasts at least six months and research is ongoing beyond that timeframe and there is also a risk of variants.

"There is a chance variants can get in and can become the dominant variant in this country.

"Variants which may have evaded our immune systems by mutating."
