GMB director interrupts live show by walking on set to confront Richard Bacon

Richard Bacon got a shock today when the Good Morning Britain director walked onto the set while he was live on air.

The presenter, who was standing in for Piers Morgan, managed to upset the bosses on his first day.

Richard was just finishing his final interview of the morning with Star Wars and Harry Potter actor Warwick Davis when the drama began to unfold.

Turning to co-host Susanna Reid, he said: "So Good Morning Britain is back tomorrow from 6 o’clock. You won’t be here.

Suddenly, GMB editor Niel Thompson walked into the studio with something intriguing in his hands.

"Oh the editor is here. Hi Neil," said a bemused Richard, who had no idea what was going on.

Neil informed Richard that he might not be on Friday's show unless he made a big change.

The editor said: "Well Richard you may or may not be here. Simple choices in life."

"It’s either this or that," he added, giving Richard two choices.

Neil offered him either a shaving foam, a razor and a towel or a brown envelope with 'P45 written on the front.

Susanna Reid pointed out that Warwick was clean shaven, but her co-host was "a little bit stubbly".

Richard replied: "Neil, lets leave them hanging. Will there be an empty chair tomorrow at 6am?

Neil added: "That's what we like. a Bit of spontaneity."

Good Morning Britain viewers flocked to Twitter to call for more Bacon on their screens.

"Well Richard Bacon makes a nice change from @piersmorgan," said one fan.

Another added: "Richard Bacon. Definitely a nice sight to see on my TV this morning"

"@GMB Need Richard Bacon on more. Self-deprecating, knowledgable and most of all entertaining," said a third.

However, some GMB viewers were not fans of Richard on today's show.

One viewer said: "Richard Bacon adds absolutely nothing to #GMB !! The P45 should not be a joke !!"

"Is it just me or is Richard Bacon abit awks on #GMB," argued another.

A third said: "The word Bacon, normally excites and invigorates the senses, but not when it's preceded by the word Richard"
