GMB coronavirus 'hypocrisy' as crew member defies social distancing rules with Piers Morgan

Good Morning Britain has been accused of 'hypocrisy' after a crew member was caught defying social distancing rules.

GMB viewers spotted a runner rushing on set to pass papers to Piers Morgan during an interview with James McAvoy.

Ironically, the Hollywood actor appeared live on the show from his London home to talk about donating £275,000 to a crowdfunding campaign to buy protective equipment for the front-line NHS staff.

Piers had spent the morning blasting a list of 'Covidiots' for not obeying the rules, including Aston Villa star Jack Grealish, Labour MP Stephen Kinnock and President Trump.

So it came as a massive shock when a GMB staff member got way too close to Piers and co-host Lorraine Kelly.

Baffled Good Morning Britain viewers took to Twitter after noticing

One viewer noticed: "Someone just gave Piers a piece of paper not 2 metres away"

"You are doing a lot of good work @piersmorgan. But please, social distancing on set. Did that assistant have to hand that piece of paper next to you? Could it not have been collected or sent electronically," asked another.

A third agreed: "So the chap that dropped off the paper to @piersmorgan wasn’t 2meters away! You can’t s**g @realDonaldTrump when you’re just as close in the studio, breathing the same recirculated air... @DrHilaryJones what say you?"

This came as James spoke about his reasons for donating money to get equipment for NHs staff to fight the "invisible enemy".

He said: "It’s an absolute war zone in there and we’re asking them to go and fight that war with no weaponry, with no armour and I’m sure it’s going to get fixed in the coming weeks and months.

"But what is happening right now in the interim, what is happening right now - the threats that they face and the threat of them passing it on to their patients and their patients’ family is huge,.

"So every day that goes by without the correct personal protective equipment is an opportunity lost to save someone’s life.

"The sooner we can PPE in there - even just donating £10, that means you might potentially save a life because you’ve provided essential PPE to a healthcare provider as this essentially important time."

Good Morning Britain viewers were already questioning the social distancing measures on the show this morning.

Many claimed that Piers and Charlotte were not sat two metres apart and needed to 'get a new tape measure'

But Dr Hilary insisted: "We're sitting two metres apart. We’ve measured it. We're practising what we preach, hopefully."

GMB viewers took to Twitter to question how far apart Piers and Charlotte were sitting from each other.

One viewer said: "#gmb looks like your presenters are not obeying the 2 metre rule actions speak larger than words hypocrites"

"Piers Morgan, lambasting the Prime Minister not honouring social distancing, whilst sitting 1m away from his co-host Charlotte Hawkins," added another.

A third agreed: "I'm not being funny but @PiersMorgan and @CharlotteHawkns are sat a little bit too close together for my liking right now."

"Piers and Charlotte need a new tape measure. They’re never two metres apart," said a fourth.
