GMB branded ‘car crash TV’ as Adil Ray sticks £2 coin between his bum live on air

Good Morning Britain viewers were shocked on Wednesday when host Adil Ray stuck a £2 coin between his bottom live on air.

The 46-year-old host had been talking about "butt cheeks" all morning and teased about one of their guests being able to walk with a coin in between theirs.

And it turns out that guest was 74-year-old actor David Suchet, who appeared on Good Morning Britain to promote the re-release of his film Effie Gray.

As the interview came to a close, Adil said: "Here’s a question that I’ve been teasing all morning actually, David. Did you put a penny between your butt cheeks on the set of Poirot to master that stance and poise?"

Good Morning Britain host Adil Ray attempted to stick a £2 coin in between his butt cheeks on Wednesday's show (ITV)

Laughing and looking a little embarrassed, David replied: "You’re very naughty Adil. Okay, well this is the story... when I read how Poirot walked and the description is that he crossed the lawn with his usual rapid, mincing...

"I remembered Laurence Olivier trying to find a way to walk as he rehearsed and he did that, he put a penny between the cheeks of his butt and then walked around."

Poirot actor David Suchet admitted that he used to put a penny between his bottom in order to master the walk (ITV)

He continued: "I was on the Isle of Bryher at the time making another film and practising the walk and, yes, I will admit that I did put a penny between my cheeks and minced around the Isle of Bryher, and that’s the end of that one!"

Adil then said: "Listen I’m gonna give this a go now!" as he popped a £2 coin between his butt cheeks.

The GMB cameraman zoomed in on Adil Ray attempting to try the penny trick (ITV)

As the cameraman zoomed in, Adil shouted: "Don’t film me putting it in!" before adding: "Oh it's already dropped out! It's a £2 coin, maybe it's better with a penny."

Viewers tuning in at home were shocked by the scenes and took to Twitter to comment.

"Omg what has #GMB come to? Sticking penny’s in your bum! Like wtf!!" one person tweeted.

A second viewer posted: "@GMB wtf is @adilray doing, this is an embarrassment!!!! #gmb," while a third asked: "What did I just watch? #gmb @GMB."

Adil Ray had been mentioning 'butt cheeks' all morning to his GMB co-star Ranvir Singh (ITV)

A fourth person added: "What on Earth!?! #GMB Penny in cheeks this time of the morning Kmt," and a fifth said: "#gmb Can this get any worse."

Elsewhere, another viewer described the breakfast show as "car crash TV" as Adil and his co-host Ranvir Singh interviewed MP Paul Scully and grilled him about tourists entering the UK for leisure reasons.
