GMB Andi Peters followed in shops because of 'colour of his skin'

GMB star Andi Peters has revealed he's been followed around shops because of the "colour of his skin."

Andi spoke out about racism today after West Indies cricketer Michael Holding spoke about his experiences.

Michael argued on GMB that some people think they superior to other races because of the colour of their skin, while others think they are inferior because of the colour of theirs.

Michael was passionate about the issue and described the situation as "a load of b******s".

Ben Shephard apologised for Michael's language but Susanna Reid said that "sometimes the language is justified".

And Andi picked up on Michael's comments, before going onto the usual competition segment.

He said: "What he said about being followed in shops and supermarkets because of the colour of your skin, that really exists - that happens to me enough times for me to know 'oh someone thinks I'm going to nick the Wispa bar, I'm not I'm just going to get it and pay for it like everybody else'.

"So it is extraordinary, so it was just so refreshing to hear someone speak so openly about it on the television.

"It meant a lot, it meant a lot to me and I'm sure a lot of people watching were like 'you know what, thank you Michael' because he speaks the truth."

Andi said that he is followed around shops "a lot" and that it's only when people recognise he is famous that they think he's not a threat.

He said: "I'm lucky because someone eventually realises 'oh it's you' well hang on what does that mean?

"So you judge me on the colour of my skin until you realise 'oh it's that bloke off the telly, he won't steal.'

"But you know what we're talking about it and I don't think we should be ashamed to talk about it."

*GMB continues at 6am on ITV tomorrow
