Gmail, Google Maps and YouTube to be blocked on phones - full list

Some Android users are no longer able to access Google Maps, Gmail and YouTube, due to a huge software update.

According to the Daily Record, users of an Android 2.3 will be locked out of the old software and blocked from the apps, unless they update their phone or buy a new handset.

The Google owned apps affected include YouTube, Google Play Store, Google Maps, Gmail and Google Calendar.

The tech giant decided to withdraw support for this particular Android operating system in a safety drive, as it's older, and therefore more vulnerable to bugs and hackers.

The latest Android software currently is Android 11.

The list of phones affected includes:

  • Sony Xperia Advance
  • Lenovo K800
  • Sony Xperia Go
  • Vodafone Smart II
  • Samsung Galaxy S2
  • Sony Xperia P
  • LG Spectrum
  • Sony Xperia S
  • LG Prada 3.0
  • HTC Velocity
  • HTC Evo 4G
  • Motorola Fire
  • Motorola XT532

Google says: "As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our users safe, Google will no longer allow sign-in on Android devices that run Android 2.3.7 or lower starting September 27, 2021."
