NEW YORK _ It didn't pan out when a New York football team took a shot on Tim Tebow.
Don't expect at least one New York baseball team to do the same.
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said it's "probably unlikely" the team would consider signing the former NFL quarterback who reportedly will be hosting a showcase for teams.
"Are you insinuating that we need a Hail Mary at this point? That's not something we've given a lot of thought to," Alderson said Tuesday afternoon. "I'd say it's probably unlikely but that's without any real information on his baseball background. We'll keep an open mind."
Alderson joked when asked about whether the team will attend the showcase.
"Was he born in Cuba? OK, then our interest is probably not as high as it would be," Alderson joked. "We'll make a decision on that, I don't want to be too cavalier about it. Probably not going to have an impact on us in a material way the next two months."
