May 10--Ryan Pace began last week searching for a director of college scouting and ended it also in need of someone to oversee the pro scouting department of the Chicago Bears.
The first-year general manager has multiple hires to make in the front office after Dwayne Joseph left the organization Thursday. Multiple sources told the Tribune that Joseph, who served as the associate director of pro personnel the past two years, was offered the position of director of pro personnel, but chose to explore opportunities elsewhere.
Joseph, 42, became the Bears' assistant director of pro scouting in 2012 after an eight-year run in the front office of the Miami Dolphins.
The Tribune reported Monday that the contract of Marty Barrett, the former director of college scouting, was not renewed.
Joseph originally joined the Bears as an undrafted free-agent cornerback from Syracuse in 1994. He appeared in all 16 games in 1995. He was released in 1997 and the next year was re-hired by the franchise to run the player development programs, a position he held through the 2003 season.
The Bears also had two area scouts at the college level leave at the start of the week: Jay Muraco and Zach Truty. Kevin Turks, the director of pro personnel for the past two years, was fired in January.
