GM Kevin Colbert will be conducting Steelers draft from home (like everyone else)

In a memo sent to the 32 NFL clubs on Monday, commissioner Roger Goodell informed the 2020 NFL Draft — April 23-25 — will, as expected, take place in a virtual format.

With both league and club facilities closed indefinitely, clubs have been advised to prepare to conduct the draft virtually, outside of their respective facilities. Club personnel has been instructed to be in separate locations and to communicate with one another and draft headquarters via phone or internet.

Last week, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton detailed plans for his staff to gather at Dixie Brewing Company. Payton’s decision came under scrutiny and may have even sparked the need for Goodell to specify draft guidelines.

While the logistics of the unprecedented virtual draft are still being finalized, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that EA Sports has been tasked with creating a virtual version of the draftee meeting the commissioner.

It’ll definitely be interesting to see how this all plays out in these weeks leading up to the draft. The NFL is known for putting ultimate fan experiences on display, and even with the limitations, I doubt this will be any different.
