GM John Schneider confirms Earl Thomas will test free agency

Seattle Seahawks free safety Earl Thomas will finally get his chance to negotiate with other teams. General manager John Schneider confirmed during his combine press conference on Wednesday that Thomas is going to test the open market.

Thomas wrapped up the final year of his deal with the Seahawks on the injured reserve after failed attempts last season at either a contract extension or trade.

Schneider said he has not been in contact recently with the All-Pro safety.

“I understood his frustration,” Schneider explained to the media. “It’s business. He’s a free agent and he’s going to test free agency, so we’ll see what happens. We have a good relationship with his agents and stuff. He’s going to be one of those dudes that’s up on the Ring of Honor.”

Unless Thomas and the Seahawks are somehow able to come to an agreement on an extension, Thomas is set to become an unrestricted free agent on March 13 at the start of the new league year.
