Glyn Pardoe dead: Legendary Man City title-winner passes away aged 73

Man City legend Glyn Pardoe has sadly passed away aged 73.

Pardoe formed part of City's successful side of the late 60s and early 70s.

During his time at the club he helped City claim the First Division title in 1968, before FA Cup success the following season.

He also achieved success abroad, with City winning the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1970 - the same year they also collected the League Cup.

It was in that League Cup final that Pardoe grabbed the all-important winner in front of a bumper crowd of almost 100,000 at Wembley Stadium.

His goal in extra time sealed a 2-1 win over West Brom.

He spent his entire 14-year playing career with City, from 1962-1976, and started as a forward before gradually moving back to play as a full-back.

Pardoe still holds the record for being City's youngest ever player, making his debut before his 16th birthday.

Tributes poured in for Pardoe following news of his death, including from his grandson Tommy Doyle, who currently plays for Man City.

Doyle wrote: "Forever my hero! I love you so much. Rest easy."

Man City paid their own respects with a post on Twitter, which read: "Everyone at City is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Glyn Pardoe.

"Our thoughts and condolences go out to his friends and family at this difficult time."

The latter stages of Pardoe's career were sadly hampered by a serious injury after he broke his leg in a tackle with Man Utd's George Best in a local derby.

Doctors feared Pardoe's leg would have to be amputated, but thankfully he made a full recovery, though the injury kept him on the sidelines for two years.

By the time he returned his place in the City first-team had been filled, and his appearances were limited thereafter until his retirement in 1976.

In total Pardoe made over 380 appearances for City, scoring 22 times, and played in every position except for centre-half.

Following his retirement he remained with City in a coaching capacity for a further 16 years, eventually leaving the club in 1992.
