Glyn Hodges reveals when AFC Wimbledon found out about Sunderland's coronavirus outbreak

Wimbledon manager Glyn Hodges claims he only found out about the coronavirus outbreak at Sunderland when they arrived at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland were without eight first team players after one member of the playing staff tested positive and two more showed symptoms.

The Black Cats say they contacted the EFL in regards to postponing the tie, but there was a lack of clarity regarding what sanctions they may face.

The EFL has since responded, saying that the decision to play the game lay firmly with the club.

Speaking after the game, Hodges said: "It was only when we got to the ground that we realised it was all over Twitter and social media that there was an outbreak of covid.

"We weren't aware of that driving up this morning and I'm sure they wouldn't have let us come this far if we weren't going to play the game.

"It was a question of whether they made a few changes and it does affect the team.

"They still put out a very strong side and it was one that we did very well to play against."
