Glowing red UFO with fiery trail over UK skies leaves stargazers 'flummoxed'

A strange glowing red UFO in the north Kent sky has left stargazers well and truly "flummoxed".

Video footage taken by a local has prompted speculation it could anything from aliens to sophisticated firework.

Stephen Sangster was filming the night sky when he noticed something peculiar.

The footage shows a glow which appears to be travelling to the right before turning and flying towards the left.

In the first few seconds of the video a trail can be seen behind the white glow, as if it was some kind of firework.

But as the mysterious object changes direction, the brightness also intensifies, KentLive reports.

After spotting the intriguing object, Stephen, 39, from Orpington, Greater London, posted the footage on Twitter on Saturday night.

He said: "I had the telescope out because there was a beautiful moon and I was waiting for it come come up.

"I could see out of the corner of my eye a sparkling object, which I initially thought was a shooting star.

"I shared it on Twitter to see if anyone had any good ideas as to what it could be."

One person suggested it could be an acrobatic flying display team that uses pyrotechnics, but no event was planned (KentLive WS)

One person responded to the Tweet and suggested it could be an acrobatic flying display team that uses pyrotechnics, however after searching for nearby events, Stephen could not find anything.

"There has been a great deal of interest and a lot of people think it could be aliens visiting," he said.

"There was also a person who has written an extra terrestrial book and he's keen to examine the video in more detail.

"I looked at local events in the area, which also included Brands Hatch, but I couldn't see anything due to take place that evening."

After hearing many theories on what the mysterious glow could be, Steven lifted the lid on his own theory.

"It must have been some sort of plane, whether it was in difficulties or whether it was just practicing," he added.

"It's just bizarre that no one has got any idea or has come forward with any credible explanation."
