Glover Teixeira: ‘That’s so stupid’ for Jon Jones to mock Anthony Smith’s home invasion

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – You’ll rarely hear Glover Teixeira say anything negative about another fighter. But when the victorious Brazilian was told about Jon Jones’ tweet  mocking Anthony Smith’s recent home invasion – which he later deleted – following Teixeira’s victory at UFC on ESPN+ 29, he had something to say about it.

“That’s so stupid, you know?” Teixeira told reporters, including MMA Junkie, backstage at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. “I don’t talk (expletive) about Jon Jones. People ask me all the time what he’s saying, what he’s done. Whatever he’s done – hitting (a) pregnant woman – I never judge people outside.”

In the since-deleted tweet late Wednesday night, Jones said, “Good thing Glover is not on the hunt for a new TV,” the implication being that Teixeira could have his way if he broke into Smith’s home.

Teixeira (31-7 MMA, 14-5 UFC) had just picked up a crucial victory over Smith to push himself right back into title contention at 205 pounds. But Jones’ mocking of Smith, who had gone public to explain his terrifying ordeal during a home invasion last month, left a sour taste in the Brazilian’s mouth.

“You know me, man. I’d never judge people outside of the octagon, and I say it’s not my job to judge (Jones) outside of the octagon,” Teixeira said. “Whatever he does outside MMA, we all do stupid (expletive). And for him to say something like that, man, that’s so stupid, because the guy has a family there. That’s probably the stupidest thing he’s ever said.

“Tell Jon Jones to take care of his stuff, man. He’s got a lot of stuff to take care of, you know?”
