Glover Teixeira shows off bandaged face after brutal UFC 283 title fight

Glover Teixeira has shown off his bandaged and bruised face a day after losing his UFC title fight against Jamahal Hill.

Teixeira, 43, missed out on the chance to become a two-time UFC champion when he was decisively beaten by Hill in the main event of UFC 283 on Saturday night. Both men were absent from the post-fight press conference as they were taken to a local hospital in Rio de Janeiro following the fight.

The title clash was close to being stopped between rounds as Teixeira had several facial lacerations that were only being worsened by Hill's strikes. Neither Hill or Teixeira suffered any serious injuries, but a picture has been released of Teixeira's bandaged face after he was treated at the hospital.

Teixeira became one of the oldest champions in UFC history by winning the light-heavyweight title against Jan Blachowicz in October 2021. The 43-year-old retired by laying down his gloves in the octagon after losing defeat to Hill, but insisted he will remain involved in MMA to coach UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira.

“In reality, I think I’m too tough for my own good, too tough for my own health," Teixeira said. I can’t keep up anymore “I’m gonna focus my energy on Alex Pereira. He’s gonna keep his belt for a while then go up to light heavyweight. It’s an honour to put the gloves down on the same night as Shogun [Rua] I wish we were in the Royce Gracie era where you just go no rounds and keep going. But we’re not, and I just can’t keep up anymore."

Hill will likely defend his title against Jiri Prochazka in his first defence, as the former champion vacated the belt last November after suffering "the worst shoulder injury in history." Hill was taken back by Texeira's ability to withstand damage and said the crafty veteran is as "tough as bricks".

"The dude is tough as bricks, I don't know anybody who would have been willing to take the punches I was throwing and keep going," Hill said of Teixeira. "I heard the referee saying 'keep fighting' and I was like 'damn it, he is'. He didn't stop [fighting] the whole time and it was just an honour to share the cage with him."

"From where I came from to get to this, it's unreal. Anything is possible, hard work, dedication, accountability, don't let anybody tell you nothing. Too many people told me I couldn't do it was impossible, that I could only win in one round and I couldn't to go five, what the f*** you gonna say now?"
