Have you been fantasising about your late-2021 night out? The thumping music, the sweaty dance floor. Already begun agonising over the perfect garb for your first night-on-the-tiles?
For anyone looking for hands-free, care-free ‘fits, Muccia Prada and Raf Simons’ second womenswear collection for Prada delivered some rave-ready answers.
Choc-full of shimmering platform disco boots and the geometric print bodysuits that were also sported by every model back at the Prada men’s show in January, this was a collection designed for writhing and shimmying – which is exactly what the models began to do half way through the runway film. “Ease and movement was very important to us,” said Simons in a Zoom press conference post-show.
Jewel-coloured sequin-embellished overcoats and sequin-lined faux-fur stoles were perfect for keeping you warm in the club queue, but the dance floor pièce de résistance had to be the colourful leather glove purses that accompanied most looks. Big enough to hold just a few coins and a very small lip balm, these gloves were the totally impractical, hands-free partying accessory we all need so desperately after the most tiresomely practical and sensible year of our lives.
“I think the desire for movement and action and a new energy in fashion is building up among everybody,” said Simons. “We are looking for a release in a way.”
And Mrs Prada agreed: “Slowly, slowly something is mounting… some excitement is mounting as we see the end coming into sight,” she said. “I have to admit I am becoming excited.”
And now, with visions of ourselves writhing in a Prada bodysuit, glittery platforms and encumbered only by what we can fit in our tiny glove purse, so are we Mrs Prada, so are we.
