Gloucestershire investment group injects £11m into early-stage firms

Blackfinch Group, the Gloucestershire-based investment and tax business, has said it has backed around 20 early-stage firms this year in deals valued at £11m.

The firm, based at Gloucester Business Park in Brockworth, said three new tech start-ups had joined its portfolio: 3D marketing platform MarTech 3D, sustainable transport app RideTandem, and educational technology venture UpLearn secured £2.7m between them.

A further 14 companies, including Watchmycompetitor, Culture Shift, Clientshare, Illuma, StaffCircle and Tended received follow-on investments to reach their next stage of growth.

Ahead of the tax-year-end deadline Dr Reuben Wilcock, head of ventures at Blackfinch, said the firm’s investment activity this year had built on its funding efforts in the previous period, where it completed 12 deals, which it reported at the time were worth £17m.

Dr Wilcock said: “We are thrilled to welcome MarTech 3D, RideTandem and Up Learn to the portfolio. Three exceptional companies making waves in marketing, sustainable transportation, and education sectors respectively.

“Their innovative technology and products have already helped them achieve impressive sales and revenue growth, and we are committed to supporting these founders to deliver on their ambitious growth plans. This is a time when entrepreneurs can really shine and show their mettle, and we look forward to playing an integral role in furthering their ambitions.”

Since it was established in 2019 Blackfinch’s ventures team has invested a total of £65m across 35 companies. Blackfinch, which has assets under management valued at more than £700m, announced former Zurich and Marlborough Group investment manager Nicholas French as its new chief distribution officer earlier this year.
