Gloucestershire hotel manager to chair national industry group

The managing director of a Gloucestershire hotel has been appointed as the new chairman of industry body the Pride of Britain Hotels.

Mark Chambers, the managing director of The Greenway Hotel and Spa near Cheltenham, will head up the collective of luxury and independent hotels around the country.

He takes over from Sue Williams - who also manages the Whatley Manor hotel in Wiltshire - as the chair of the organisation, which was established in 1983 and is headquartered in the Cotswolds.

Mr Chambers will work closely with the hospitality marketing group’s senior leadership team and oversee its board, made up of leading hoteliers.

The hotelier, who is also the MD of four other hotels with The Greenway’s parent group The Eden Hotel Collection, thanked his predecessor, oversaw the transition and introduction of the Pride of Britain Hotels' chief executive Kalindi Juneja.

Mr Chambers said Ms Williams had provided “excellent stewardship” in navigating the organisation and its members through the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

He added: “It is such an exciting time for the consortium with much to be positive about, and I am confident of and very much looking forward to a successful 2023.

“Early next year we have some exciting news that will be sure to elevate the brand, as well as increase the profile of our collection to consumers and fellow hoteliers.”

Mr Chambers acknowledged there were “tough times ahead” for the hospitality industry, and pledged to work closely with stakeholders to support members.

Ms Juneja added: “Mark Chambers has a remarkable drive for business with well thought out strategy and long-term vision.

“He is currently our longest-serving board member and brings profound context to every debate. I am very excited to be working closely with him over the next two years as we continue to drive the brand and inspire consumers with our collection of leading, unique British hotels.”

The four-star Greenway Hotel and Spa in Shurdington recently began a £1m revamp of its 21-bedrooms.
