Gloucester insurance company Ecclesiastical invites nominations for £1m charity giving scheme

A Gloucester-based insurance company is launching an initiative that will see it give away £1m to charity over the course of 2021.

Ecclesiastical Insurance Group’s Movement for Good Awards is inviting people in the county to nominate a good cause, with the firm awarding 1,000 charities a donation of £1,000.

During the first phase of the campaign, 500 good causes will receive funding, with the second round happening later in the summer, Ecclesiastical said.

The company, which moved to a new HQ in Gloucester last month, started the Movement for Good Awards in 2019. Since it began, nearly 7,000 Gloucestershire residents have nominated causes they care about, with a total of £34,000 given to charities across the county.

Dean Farm Trust, Cirencester Opportunity Group and Teckels Animal Sanctuaries are among previous beneficiaries of the scheme.

Mark Hews, group chief executive of Ecclesiastical Insurance Group, said: “We’re delighted to announce the launch of Ecclesiastical’s Movement for Good awards for the third year running.

"Our Movement for Good awards will continue to help charities at a time when they need it most and we know that for many charities, £1,000 can make a real difference."

Mr Hews said the company was "thrilled" to receive so many nominations from the public last year and was encouraging "even more" people to nominate a good cause in 2021.

He added: "We are owned by a charity, which means all available profits can be given to the good causes that are so important to our customers. As a company whose purpose is to contribute to the greater good of society, charitable giving is at the heart of our business.”

The nomination process is open until June 13. Winners will be drawn at random and the more times a charity is nominated the more chance it has of being selected.
