Take a look at this poignant farewell to the city of Gloucester by the The Citizen, a paper that has served the city for 130 years. Andrew Grant-Adamson relates how its cost-cutting owners, Northcliffe Newspapers, have closed the office and moved the staff to Cheltenham, some eight miles away. One minor quibble. He takes the editor, Ian Mean, to task for referring to the readers as "them" rather than "us", and I see his point. But I'd guess that Ian, a colleague of mine from almost 40 years ago, was being honest because he isn't a local man. I've little doubt that he fought hard to maintain The Citizen in its rightful home. (Via Wordblog)
