Canberra and Perth have played out an entertaining 2-2 draw to kick off their A-League Women seasons at McKellar Park.

New United signings Grace Jale and Vesna Milivojevic each scored first-half goals on Saturday afternoon to begin at their new club in style, but Liz Anton and Perth debutant Gabriella Coleman ensured Glory woudn't leave their season-opener empty-handed.

It continued a concerning trend for Canberra as they look to bounce back from their previous disappointing campaign in which they won just two games, now having drawn four of their last five ALW matches.

New Zealand international Jale turned home a corner on 13 minutes while Serbia talent Milivojevic capped a sweeping move shortly before the halftime break.

With new coach Njegosh Popovich in charge and a string of fresh faces, United came out firing and created chances from the outset but ultimately paid the price for not making the most of their dominance.

They capped the early barrage with Jale's goal, but they easily could have led earlier via good chances for Michelle Heyman and another debutant Wu Changshu.

Perth took time to warm into the contest but hit the post trying to scramble home a Coleman cross shortly before the half-hour.

They levelled shortly after when Anton climbed high to nod home a header on 35 minutes, only for United to quickly hit back thanks to Milivojevic's tidy finish.

But American poacher Coleman squared things up again after the hour mark, easily able to turn home a divine cross from Cyera Hintzen.

Perth looked the more threatening side in the game's dying stages as Hintzen continued to pull the strings, although United's Nicki Flannery had the best chance to steal the points when she hit the post from close range after Laura Hughes drew a save from Glory keeper Sarah Langman.

Forward Flannery had a number of chances and was unlucky not to score in her return ALW match after missing last season with an ACL injury.
