Glorious Goodwood day one tips plus best bets for Perth, Beverley, Yarmouth, Worcester

All eyes will be on the first day of the Glorious Goodwood festival and our man Garry Owen has picked out his selections for the big meeting and we will be running a LIVE blog every day from the Sussex course.

LUSAIL (3.00) can cruise to victory in the World Pool Lennox Stakes on Day One of Glorious Goodwood. Richard Hannon’s horse oozed class when bolting up from Gis A Subin last year’s Gimcrack at York. A flop at Doncaster, the three-year-old returned with a fine second to Perfect Power at Newbury. The son of Mehmas then defied a slow start to finish a fair sixth in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. He put in an even better shift when chinned by the classy Coroebus in the St James's Palace at Ascot. The colt ran another stormer in a Group 1 when third to Tebebrism in the Prix Jean Prat at Chantilly. There is plenty more to come from this pacey type who can enjoy a well-deserved win down in class.

Andrew Balding’s BELL ROCK (1.50) can sink his rivals in the competitive Chesterfield Cup. The six-year-old stayed on track with a respectable third to Modern News in a Group 3 at Windsor. He built on that effort when filling the same spot behind Valiant Prince in Listed company at York. The gelding has been staying-on nicely over a mile so he can take this valuable handicap up in trip.

Some exciting types clash in the Vintage Stakes but I’m happy to side with GALERON (2.25). Charlie Hills’ colt was an eye-catching fifth to Valiant Prince on debut in a six-furlong novice here. He put that experience to good use when routing the talented Trillium over the same track and trip. The juvenile should be even better over seven furlongs so he can add this Group 2 to his growing CV.

KYPRIOS (3.35) can take a tremendous renewal of the Goodwood Cup for Aidan O’Brien. The colt began his reinvention as a stayer by crushing Search For A Song in a Naas Listed contest. The four-year-old improved again when showing Sunchart no mercy in a Leopardstown Group 3. He then relished stepping up to 2m 4f when decisively defeating Mojo Star in the Ascot Gold Cup. The son of Galileo looks open to plenty of progress so he can power to another Group 1 success.

CELSIUS (4.10) can turn up the heat for Tom Clover in the trappy Nicholson Gin Handicap. The speedster returned to form when comfortably defeating Full Authority on his return at Ascot. He continued his revival by cosily accounting for Ancient Times in a decent event at Newmarket. The gelding likes this venue so he can take advantage of an inviting mark for his shrewd handler.

MISCHIEF MAGIC (4.45) can extend Charlie Appleby’s winning run in the EBF Maiden Stakes. The juvenile started his career with an excellent third to the progressive Royal Scotsman here. The colt will have learned plenty that day so he should get the better of some promising rivals.

CRYSTAL CAPRICE (5.20) can sparkle for Sir Michael Stoute it the tricky Coral Handicap. The filly didn’t exactly set the heather on fire on her first two starts at Newmarket and Newbury. However, the three-year-old left those efforts behind when thrashing Khamsin Lady. The daughter of Frankel scored with plenty in hand so she should follow up from a cracking draw.

KIMNGRACE (5.55) can turn on the charm for Richard Hughes in the World Pool Handicap. The filly got off the mark for the season by edging out Dreams Of Thunder over course and distance. She kept up the good work when narrowly beaten by Sandbeck back over five furlongs at Haydock. That race is working out extremely well so this likeable speedster can go one better upped in trip
