Gloria Hunniford breaks down in tears as she talks daughter Caron's birth and death

Gloria Hunniford became rather emotional on Tuesday's Loose Women as she spoke about her late daughter Caron Keating.

Gloria joined fellow panelists Ruth Langsford, Coleen Nolan and Brenda Edwards as the ITV show returned for the first episode of 2022.

Revealing that they were starting their Loose Women TV club again, Ruth started speaking about new television drama Anne.

The ITV drama tells the story of the mother who was determined to find out what really happened to her son Kevin in the 1989 Hillsborough disaster.

During the conversation, Ruth mentioned how awful it must have been for Anne to have her son "ripped away from her" so suddenly.

She then asked 81-year-old Gloria how she dealt with her own experience of knowing that her daughter was dying.

TV presenter Caron was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 and died at the age of 41 on April 13, 2004, at Gloria's house in Sevenoaks, Kent.

"For me, it's the worse kind of death you can suffer," Gloria told the panel and viewers watching at home.

"I think that when you are pregnant and you carry that baby for nine months and you give birth to that baby, and it doesn't matter what age that baby loses his or her life, there's something about the actual physical part of giving birth that I think gives you a deeper loss."

Gloria continued: "Yes I knew Caron had cancer. She did fortunately live seven years and you treasure every single second that you have.

"But Caron was so positive about beating it that I, we as a family, had to join her positivity. So she actually never talked about death, she only talked about life. So it's not that it makes that easier for you, but there comes a point where you have to join in with that."

Fighting back tears, Gloria then added: "Do you know what I did feel though, it was a privilege to be there with her at birth and then at the end as well."

Brenda started welling up too as she mimicked giving Gloria a hug and told her: "Stop it."

"I'm trying not to," Gloria said before saying again: "That was a privilege to be there at her birth and death."

Loose Women airs weekdays at 12:30pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
