Globe-trotting dogs rack up over 80,000 air miles as they join owner on epic travels

Four dogs can stake a claim for being the best travelled pooches in the world having wracked up more than 80,000 air miles.

Oxana Nabokova is a professional pet transporter, specialising in the transportation of animals from Europe.

The 34-year-old New Yorker is accompanied on her travels by her four Samoyed dogs, Maya, 4, Lily and Charlie, both 2, and Marvel, 18 months.

She has to book an extra two seats on every flight, so there's enough space for the sizeable mutts to all enjoy a comfortable journey.

Oxana said: "I couldn’t imagine not being with my dogs, so it was a very natural decision to take them all on the ride with me, wherever I go. They are therapeutic.

"They have been to Mexico, Aruba, France, Russia, Hungary, Austria, Croatia, Belgium, Slovenia, the Netherlands, the Dominican Republic, Turkey, and all over the US.

"People are amazed at how well behaved and trained they are. It's not something you see every day. Most people want to sit next to them or take a photo with them."

Oxana says that taking her dogs across the globe is quite cheap.

"My expenses are surprisingly low as I pack their food with me in a suitcase and if I book a hotel, it usually isn’t much more to have them with me in Europe," she said.

"My main expenses are extra seats, especially if all four of my dogs are flying with me at the same time.

"They need enough space to fly comfortably on the plane and the seat prices vary depending on where I go."

Oxana is intent on giving her dogs - who she calls her "children" the best life possible, so she carries their food with them in a suitcase wherever they go.

As they are on a raw food diet, this means she has to lug a suitcase full of meat around with her.

Speaking about her four furry companions, Oxana revealed how one in particular is a complete ‘diva’.

She explained: "We call Maya a comedian, she does a lot of things to get attention. She likes to play dead when it's bath time. She’s an actress and a diva.

“When she knows I'm going to take her to the bath, she jumps on the bed, lays down and glues her body to the bed so that I can’t take her off it.

"Maya also remembers every single supermarket where they sell meat, and even if we have meat at home, she doesn’t let me walk by, she always pulls me inside the store because she thinks every day we need to go and buy more meat for her.

"And of course, I have to walk into the shop and then walk out just to please her. Sometimes I have to walk on different streets on purpose, because I know she won’t let me walk by supermarkets.”

Oxana said all four dislike being preened. She added: "They hate grooming, if they see a brush, they take it and hide it. Every time I buy a new comb, they find a way to hide it from me. They like to steal socks too."

As well as flying, Oxana also take the dogs on road trips and hires huge SUVs to fit the hefty hounds in.
