'Global superstar, future captain!' - Arsenal fans delighted with Matteo Guendouzi France call

After catching the eye with a fine performance in Arsenal's 2-2 with Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, Matteo Guendouzi has been rewarded with his first senior call up for France.

The 20-year-old talent was named in Didier Deschamps' squad on Monday as a replacement for Manchester United star Paul Pogba, who withdrew with an ankle injury.

Guendouzi could now make his senior debut in the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Albania and Andorra, which would mark a significant rise for a player who was featuring in the second tier of French football 18 months ago.

His first year at Arsenal saw him rise from a relatively unknown prodigy to a regular member of Unai Emery's side, while he performance against Spurs could see him become one of the first names on the teamsheet if he continues in that vein of form.

Arsenal fans on social media reacted to the news like proud parents, praising the meteoric rise of the young midfielder and pointing out that Deschamps' decision was well justified.

What they will be hoping for now, is that the youngster does not come back to north London with any injuries after the international break.
